Advancement Recognition is important to young boys. The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects. There are 24 Bear achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank. Meetings Bear Cub dens meet two times per month. Meetings consist of a gathering activity, an activity to keep the boys engaged while everyone arrives, the opening which usually consists of the recitation of the cub scout motto and the Pledge of Allegiance, a sharing activity, based on "cub work" done at home and a den activity based on advancement or elective requirements. Bear cubs also attend the monthly pack meeting. The pack meetings, attended by all Tiger Cub, Bear Cubs, Wolf Cubs and Webelo dens, are where advancement badges and other achievements are recognized.
